Need trusted non-smokers to care for your home while you’re away?

Retired Nordic house sitters travelling across Europe offering long-term house sitting

Note:

Who we are

We are a retired couple travelling from Norway with a long-standing interest in European history. Over the years, we have completed several shorter car journeys across Europe, focusing on historic towns, monuments, and culturally significant regions.

Now retired, we have the time to travel more slowly and deliberately by car. Offering reliable, planned house sitting along our route is a natural fit for how we travel: structured, calm, and respectful of the homes we stay in.

We plan our route and stays ahead whenever possible, while remaining flexible when a suitable house-sitting opportunity aligns naturally with our journey.

Availability

Available for house sitting from 26–27 February onward.

Planned route (guideline — not a fixed schedule)

Planning approach:

The route below is indicative only. It helps homeowners see where we are likely to be over time, but it is not a fixed itinerary and does not need to be followed exactly.

We adjust timing and direction whenever a suitable house-sitting opportunity fits naturally.

Any offer along or near this route is welcome.

Route overview (guideline only)

Germany
Hamburg · Düsseldorf · Frankfurt am Main · Stuttgart

France / Switzerland
Strasbourg · Geneva · Lyon · Nice

Italy
Genoa · Milan · Bologna · San Marino · Florence · Rome · Naples · Bari

This outline provides only a general sense of progression. Actual stays depend on the opportunities agreed.

Scope & expectations:

Timing note

Timing is flexible and adjusts naturally based on confirmed stays.

As a general reference, we expect to reach southern Italy (Bari area) approximately 3–5 months after departure, but this may change depending on longer or better-aligned stays accepted along the way.

Current segment (planning reference)

To help homeowners plan ahead, we indicate our current position along the route:

  • Estimated arrival in Düsseldorf: 26–27 February
  • Then: Frankfurt–Stuttgart corridor
  • Next likely segment: Strasbourg / France → Nice → Northern Italy → Genoa

Owners whose dates align with upcoming segments are welcome to contact us.

Route flexibility

We consider house-sitting opportunities that align reasonably with our direction of travel through Europe.

Detours of a few hours’ drive are fine for longer sits or longer-term house sitting.

Longer stays and long-duration sits take priority over short-term or short stays.

Coastal, seaside, or near-the-sea locations are of particular interest and may outweigh shorter inland house-sitting opportunities.

In short: A longer stay will always outweigh a shorter one, even if it requires adjusting the route.

Duration preference

We are flexible with duration.

Short stays are welcome when they fit naturally.

Longer stays are very welcome and often preferred, especially in areas of cultural or historical interest or near the coast.

We are comfortable settling in and providing continuity when needed.

Our return north is flexible and not fixed to a specific date. Timing and direction remain open and are agreed per arrangement.

Parking requirement

As we are travelling by car, secure parking is required — private parking, a garage, or a safe off-street option close to the property.

About us

We are a retired couple with complementary backgrounds and a practical, responsible approach to house sitting and home care.

  • IT professional with broad practical experience
  • Administrative professional with nearly 30 years of experience at one of Norway’s largest universities
  • Grew up spending summers on a farm — comfortable with animals and general animal care

We are structured, attentive, and calm in day-to-day home care.

Scope and boundaries

Routine day-to-day home care — as one would normally handle in their own home — is considered part of a sit. This includes indoor and outdoor living spaces, routine garden care, and basic pool upkeep where applicable.

House sitting does not include repairs, technical maintenance, renovations, or handyman work.

Any task that would normally require a paid professional is outside the scope of a sit and must be discussed separately and agreed in advance.

If required, we can coordinate access for pre-arranged professionals, but we do not perform, supervise, or assume responsibility for such work.

Important note about pets

Due to an allergy, we are unable to stay in homes where pets share indoor living spaces (e.g. sleeping in beds or on sofas).

Outdoor animals, farm animals, or separate arrangements are not a problem.

Privacy & identity

We follow common-sense privacy standards. We do not upload personal identity documents or personal photos online.

Identity is verified directly when relevant, via video call or in person.

Trust basics

  • Non-smokers
  • Quiet lifestyle
  • Video call is welcome before any arrangement
  • Communication in English and a Nordic language
